AMERICAN
Cheesecake Factory
Various locations
A very limited selection of offerings for children on the menu, but even the pickiest eater should find something worth eating here.
Chicken Kitchen
Various locations
If you asked us a couple of years ago, we would have given Chicken Kitchen 4 boosters, but this chicken chain has gotten so entirely stingy with its poultry product that we can only give one. While they do offer children's platters and furnish their dining room with highchairs, we find fault with the crumbs they pass off as chicken in their famous "chop-chop". Rice and bread does not make a meal in our book.
Granny Feelgoods
20475 Biscayne Blvd.
Aventura, FL 33180
No children's menu here, and we found the food to be a little inconsistent on our repeat visits, but the ingredients and menu choices offered are healthy, so we're willing to give them another chance.
Here Comes the Sun
2188 NE 123rd St
North Miami, FL 33181
This place is in need of some renovating and the food is mostly fair, but the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere makes up for it, to some degree. No children's menu, but you have the option of ordering smaller portions.
Flannigan's
Various locations
Not the place to go to if your looking for a healthy children's menu, but a heck of a fun place, nevertheless. We sure do like the fun, little goody-bag that accompanies the kiddie menu!
New York, New York
9017 Sw 107th Ave
Miami, FL 33176
Our family has been frequenting this West Kendal establishment for over twenty years. While the place is in need of a good renovation, it's still a fun and accommodating place for the whole family, and really the best in its class in the neighborhood.
Panera
Various locations
How I wish we had something like Panera when I was a kid. Yummy sandwiches, with fresh baked breads, cakes and cookies galore! Fear not, mom and dad, the kids' choices come with organic yogurt and milk and choose a fruit cup or an apple to seal the healthy deal.
The Pit BBQ
16400 SW 8th St
Miami, FL
There's something about the "interior" of this joint which screams REAL vintage South Florida. No, not mid-century modern, we're talkin' southern, swamp livin' here. If you can get past the divey atmosphere then you're in for a treat (just watch out for the swamp critters on your way in).
The Rusty Pelican
3201 Rickenbacker Cswy
Key Biscayne, FL 33149
Who wouldn't enjoy beautiful, waterfront dining? Certainly your young sophisticate would. The Rusty P boasts their own children's menu and seating accommodations. For a great dining experience for the whole family, we recommend the Waterfront Sunday Brunch. At the time this review was written, children under 5 were free.
Shorty’s
Various locations
Ol' Shorty's has been around for quite some time, and we don't have to wonder why. You'll find tasty and reliable barbecued vittles at this South Florida institution. They do offer a kid's menu, but we often order off of the regular menu for junior.
Soup Man
20475 Biscayne Blvd # 8
Miami, FL 33180
No kid’s menu here, and really there’s no need for one. Mom and dad will find the soups and sandwiches yummy, but the little ones will declare the fare is way too busy for their little palates.
ASIAN
Asaka Sushi Thai
20355 Biscayne Blvd
Miami, FL 33180
The expensive a la carte menu might turn some off, but the food is good and the friendly staff is eager to make with the high chairs. No children's menu here, though.
Hiro's Sushi Express
Various locations
The food here is slightly lacking when you compare it to other, more formal Japanese restaurants, but we were sold on the fast-food-style gimmick. There are only a handful of tables in this NMB eatery, and we've never spotted a high chair or booster seat, so you're better off ordering take-out.
Hiro's Yakko San
17040 W Dixie Hwy
North Miami Beach, FL
Yakko San is a fun departure from ordinary Japanese fare, but it is perhaps not the best destination for parents with their little ones in tow. Our waitress was extremely helpful and courteous, but we struggled to find anything that our four year old son would enjoy. Yakko San is best left for mom and dad’s special night out.
Shibui
10141 SW 72nd St
Miami, FL 33173
Great, consistent Japanese food! We have yet to find another Japanese restaurant that can compare. If the little one in your life craves Japanese, head out to Shibui.
Shing Wang
237 NE 167th St
Miami, FL
Here's a very unique South Florida restaurant--100% vegetarian, Chinese food. No children's menu, and the kids might be turned off by the soy "meat" and all of those--gasp--vegetables, but the staff is very hospitable and the shaved ice is a tasty treat.
South Garden Chinese Restaurant
10855 Sunset Dr
Miami, FL
No children's menu at this southwest Miami Chinese restaurant, but if you want to introduce the kids to some good Hong Kong style dim sum and reliably tasty Chinese favorites, this is the place to go to.
Su Shin
10501 N Kendall Dr
Miami, FL
You'll find a pretty decent kiddie menu at Su Shin and the food and decor are slightly better than average.
Sushi Ko
7971 Bird Rd
Miami, FL
No children's menu, but the food is decent and reasonbly priced. Big kids and little kids alike will love the generous lunch specials served in a bento box.
Thai Orchid
9565 SW 72nd St
Miami, FL 33173
For excellent Thai dishes, Thai Orchid rarely disappoints, but Thai usually runs a tad too hot for those tiny taste buds. Fear not, Thai Orchid also offers Japanese selections for the wee ones and their kin.
ISRAELI
Pita Plus
18833 Biscayne Blvd
Miami, FL 33180
We found the staff to be less than friendly, but the food is fresh and top notch. For the little one, the chicken pita is a winner.
ITALIAN
Andiamo! Brick Oven Pizza
5600 Biscayne Blvd
Miami, FL 33137
Get you and yours some of the best slices in the area. We recommend the "Andiamo" for the kids--a delicious and simple pie offering sauce, mozzarella and basil. However, unless your bambino is older, you might just want to do takeout here, as we were told they only only have one, working highchair.
Anthony’s Brick Oven Pizza
Various locations
The menu is tasty and pretty simple here: pizza, salad and chicken wings. We don't know anyone who doesn't approve of the pies, although they sometimes come out a bit charred. Folks have always been accommodating to the youngsters when we've gone, and provide lids for drinks and high-chairs.
The Big Cheese
8080 SW 67th Ave
Miami, FL 33143
Great quality food at affordable prices, not to mention some of the best pizza you can find in Miami. They offer a typical kid's menu, but with "side" portions of pasta available, kids can do well ordering off of the regular menu as well.
Mike's Italian Pizza
13712 SW 84th St
Miami, FL 33183
The best pizza joint in West Kendall. We've been going to Mike's since day one, and we've never stopped. No kiddie menu, but otherwise very accommodating to the kids.
Pizza Rustica
Various locations
On two occasions we visited the location in Hollywood and found the staff to be indifferent and the pie mostly disappointing.
LATIN
Baja Fresh
Various locations
If your little one likes to take their taste buds south of the border, then we recommend this fast food chain. It's inexpensive and offers kids quality fare with healthier side choices--like apple sauce and fresh salsa.
Chipotle
Various locations
Our son refers to this chain as the "spicy taco place". A tasty stop for older kids and grown ups with a more mature palette and tolerance for a bit of heat.
El Novillo
6830 SW 40th St
Miami, FL 33155
We love this Nicaraguan restaurant. El Novillo offers very good food and exceptional service. Their kid's menu is adequate and even offers a junior sized version of their famous churrasco.
La Caretta
Various locations
Sure there are better Cuban restaurants out here in South Florida, but La Caretta is a local institution. High chairs, boosters and children's menus abound. Be sure to visit our favorite location in Little Havana!
Lime Fresh Mexican Grill
Various locations
Most of us liked the stylish, sleek atmosphere matched with fresh ingredients here. While they do have a a very limited children's menu, you could even order tacos and other sides à la carte to find something more to your little one's liking.
Pacqutios
16265 Biscayne Blvd
Aventura, FL 33160
A real popular destination in the North Miami area, but we found it to be a less than ideal destination for kids. Salsa is way too hot for those little taste buds and the layers of tablecloths and padding on the table makes for an unsteady dining scape for those tiny hands--dad learned first hand when he left wearing our son's drink.
Versailles
3555 Sw 8th St
Miami, FL
You haven't really lived in Miami until you make a trip to Versailles. Reliable Cuban favorites in a family-friendly environment.
MIDDLE EASTERN
Daily Bread
2400 SW 27th St
Miami, FL 33133
Fresh Mediterranean food at its best. They don't have an actual children's menu, but you can order their succulent chicken by the piece in addition to other sides. Although, in truth, it might not pan out for the incredibly picky, little eaters--it's worth a try.
Lemon Fizz
16310 W Dixie Hwy
North Miami Beach, FL 33160
The friendly staff here can't be beat, and if you're interested in trying something new, go for the saj. Lemon Fizz doesn't offer any specific items for the kids, but most (with the exception of the extremely picky eater) should be able to find something.
Pasha’s
Various locations
Healthy Mediterranean never tasted this good. No kiddie menu, but if you're tot has a taste for chicken and rice, you're in business.
Rice House of Kabob
Various locations
Very yummy Persian food. No children's menu, but the portions are big enough to share.
